RBMS has offered scholarships to first-time RBMS conference attendees since 2000. The purpose of the scholarships is to encourage attendance by students, qualified paraprofessionals, and librarians with limited professional development support; to introduce attendees to RBMS and ACRL with the aim of promoting participation; and to foster greater diversity in RBMS and the profession. Since 2007, RBMS has offered an average of nineteen scholarships per year. These scholarships have encouraged new members to attend the conference, learn more about RBMS, and become active in the Section.
Funding for scholarships has come from a combination of profit-sharing from previous RBMS conferences, support from ACRL, grants from various organizations, and donations from individual section members. Full scholarships include registration and a travel stipend while partial scholarships provide complimentary registration and may or may not include a stipend.
Since 2000, RBMS has awarded more than 270 scholarships. Many past recipients are now active in RBMS, including chair of the section in 2012-2013 and chairs or co-chairs of the 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017 Conference Program Planning Committees.
For this year’s conference, we are looking to raise $3000 for scholarships.
Donations may be made when registering for the RBMS conference or separately through the Friends of ACRL Website. For the Friends site, please remember to indicate that the donation is for RBMS conference scholarships.
